The Edge of the Wold

Sunset over Grange

This was taken from the furthest point of the headland beyond Arnside looking across the estuary to Grange-over-Sands. This "searchlight" effect of light into the sky above is something I have not seen very often.

I needed a long walk as an antidote to the working day. The circuit of the promontory is about 4 miles. I do this perhaps once a month and there is always something different to see. It was was too windy today for a picture of the Lancastrian Whitebeam, the endemic tree species that is restricted to the limestones around Morecambe Bay. It is fruiting well at the moment, and would make an interesting blip if we get a bright day without too much wind.
