The Merchant's House

This is, in my view, the best house on the oldest street in Peel. More precisely it's the warehouse adjacent to the house. It has just had a paint job, which is what prompted me to photograph it. There are rumours that this house, and others on the street, was used in the days of smuggling and that smuggled goods would be brought up through tunnels from the sea to the cellars of houses along Castle Street. This house has a two storey cellar and four stories above ground, and I would love to have bought it had we stayed permanently on the Isle of Man.

Roof news: Scaffolders came again today; still not finished I don't think. And the roofer didn't come because it was raining. Except it wasn't! It didn't rain here all afternoon.
