Hoy morning at Quoyness

An early start today to head over to Hoy and volunteer with the RSPB. We were continuing to remove alien conifers for native species which will benefit wildlife.

At the warden's house there was a bit of a wait as the pro's got the chain-saws ready, and I took this picture. There was also excitement as a northern bullfinch appeared. I wasn't actually aware that there was a sub-species of bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)which sometimes appears in the UK from Scandinavia or Russia (Pyrrhula pyrrhula pyrrhula!), but there he was and very big and handsome he was too, not showing much 'quoyness'. Geddit?

I got a couple of shots, but they weren't too sharp. A bit like my wit.

Here's the northern bullfinch.
