The Edge of the Wold

Solitary oak

After yesterday when the fog never lifted, the sun rose today in a brilliant blue sky and the snow was crisply crystalline after a freezing night.

I went for a quick walk at dawn...and didn't come home until 1 pm. The hill of Arnside Knott really had been transformed by the freezing fog into a replica of Narnia (thank you meganrose for the comparison yesterday). The highlight of the day was a large flock of waxwings on top of the Knott feeding greedily on yew berries, trilling to each other constantly.

The day ended with a fabulous sunset.

What to blip? This was one of the first pictures of the day, the solitary oak tree that stands in the fields above Arnside Tower Farm, here backlit by the low sun.

I will try to find some time to post some more pictures on Flickr.
