Baronial

The corbelled corner turret is a regular feature of the style of Gothic Revival known as Scots Baronial! This example is on Hermitage House which I blipped back in July. (Can't believe all those leaves!)

Had a long talk with the Ranger about missing birds. She reckons most will return from whatever patch of running water they have decamped to.

She described the sad story of the swans. Season before last both died! Their male cygnet carried on and grew up here. He was a lazy so-and-so! He was meant to go and find a mate and bring her back. Couldn't be bothered. The RSPCA introduced a young lady to see how that would go. They swam about together fine - but she was a nervous damsel who had been used to a quieter country life. The stress all got too much for her, and she ran away.

He wasn't too bothered and just swam around - until the current conditions forced him to leave too. (Maybe to Queen's Park, maybe to the mouth of the Esk at Musselburgh?)
