Derelict Mill

This is one of the fine old woollen mills on Thornton Road, some of which have been refurbished, some of which are lying derelict. The stone mills are a key part of the architectural heritage of the city, and too many have fallen to demolition or fire.

Within a few hundred square yards we have new builds, mills under refurbishment, the disused and vacant Bradford Odeon, the vibrant Alhambra Theatre, and buildings like this. It sums up the uncertainty of the city, some signs of renewal, some signs of decay. I'm hopeful that the renewal will win out, but it needs buildings like this to be brought back into use.

derelict mill ~ neglected ~ full of character ~ possibilities ~ made of stone
