Cattle and Windmill - Gigha

The island of Gigha was bought by its community in 2002 - a major landmark in the struggle for community land ownership in Scotland. Then the island had less than 100 inhabitants , now it is over 150. Then the school had 6 pupils - today it has 23.

The three community owned wind turbines on the island have been a major contributor to the investment required, particularly in housing. They have attracted much attention and their story is a fascinating one. But there is much more to see - including the gallery, the hotel, the gardens and lots of wonderful scenery. I paid my first visit today - I shall be back.
