Sgwarnog: In the Field

Basket of Bobbins

A grey January Sunday was brightened by a family trip to Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills.

Amongst other things we were treated to a personal storyteller enacting Burns' Tam o'Shanter (too scary for 3yo and 6yo) and a showing of Chaplin's 'A Burlesque on Carmen' in a cosy reconstruction of a 1920s cinema.

The museum is mostly oriented around the textile industry though, as it is housed within what was at one time the world's largest woollen mill (although it was neighboring Bradford that was Worstedopolis, 'The Wool Capital of the World.') So what better image for a woollen mill than a basket of bobbins.
