Basquiat in Paris

This blip shows persons around the large selection of postcards, books and memorabilia on Jean-Michel Basquiat, at Paris's Musée d'Art moderne (MAM), which is showing a large exhibition on him. (The exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of his birth in 1960.)

The exhibition ends this Sunday, and there was a line today. Not being a particular fan, I didn't join the line, entering by a different door to see a very small exhibition of American photos (also ending Sunday), and some of the permanent collection. Afterwards I went to MAM's small but excellent bookstore, where I shot this image. Here it is large

Basquiat was an American of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, who spoke English, French and Spanish fluently (which I had not realized until preparing this comment). He is perhaps the best known exponent of the street/underground/graffiti art movement which burst on the New York scene in the late 1970s. He died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27 in 1988.

More information on him (in English) is here, and on the exhibition here.

Edit: I've just added an "Edit" to yesterdays blip in the rain, which some of you may find amusing.
