That castle again

It was snowing when I left Leith this morning, but it wasn't settling at all. It was quite surprising to see this much snow just 20 minutes later and only a couple of miles away.

The rest of the day contained altogether too much distracting stuff for me to get the camera out again, so this turned out to be it.

Many years ago I heard a piece of vox pop on the radio which consisted of a reporter asking a couple who'd retired down to the Hampshire coast various questions about their life and aspirations. I think it was in the run-up to a general election. They weren't very responsive and just sounded vaguely discontented with everything. In desperation he asked

"Do you ever go away on holiday?"
"No. Oh, well, we went to Edinburgh a couple of years ago."

"Did you like Edinburgh?"
"No, we were very disappointed. We'd heard of their famous Princes Street, so we went there; but all we saw were the same high street stores you see everywhere."

But if they'd only turned their backs to the shops and looked to the other side of the street, they'd have seen this! Although perhaps they'd have found the view disappointing as well....
