Thursday 18 March 2010: Crocus rug
Lots of crocuses on blip lately - I guess they're a burst of brightness in our gloomy "not quite spring really" weather. This carpet of them is in North Berwick, next to the rugby ground.
I'm in the middle of creating a Yoda costume for Conor for a party on Saturday. Of course I should have started it a week ago - but then there'd be no midnight deadline panic and where would be the fun in that? Today I did the easy bit and hacked up and sewed some old rough material into a cloak thingy. Tomorrow, green felt ears.
I also have to brave one of those terrifying toy superstores tomorrow to let Conor choose a present for his pal. The only thing getting me through the thought of having to do this was the joy of a little trip to Borders bookstore, buy a couple of books, have a wee browse, nice cup of tea ..... [sound of needle scraping across record] oh, forgot it had closed. Ah well, never mind. Woolies is just round the corner... Oh. Shopping is no fun any more.
On the positive side, found a toad in our front garden tonight. Wondered why I hadn't seen any slugs the past few days. Hope he (looks like a he to me) hangs around, though I suspect he's just on the look out for Mrs Toad (she's in the back yard mate). Conor has named him Slugger. I'm sure he'd like that.
EDIT: see Slugger here!

I'll think of you labouring over that Yoda costume (I remember one Christmas Eve/Christmas morning staying up until 3am finishing off a wonder woman costume for the firstborn.....only started after she went to bed of course!) Love the non-crocus crop of the thumbnail!

"not quite spring really" is the season that precedes "almost summer", followed by "deffo autumn" and "never-ending winter"
Cool colourful blip!
I don't mean to lecture, but for a yoda costume, I would have started with the ears, it is definitely the piece de resistance.

Nice carpet. Apparently the Fort is a ghost town since Borders (sob) closed. Bring it back I say.
Yoda costume?! Your journal touches territory previously unknown to man.

Looks brighter and cheerier than your shopping trip. But much more importantly can we see the Yoda costume. Good it will be, certain am I.

that's a lovely rug:) good luck toy shopping......don't envy you.

Borders was the only thing to drag me into that desert....good luck with deadline...I'm a just in time sort of guy too.

I've seen a lot of crocus rugs recently, and Slugger looks like a character you wouldn't argue with! Good luck with the costume. :-)

I like this one, Did you get wet knees taking it.

That's a very good crop you have there.

Beautiful crocus carpet!

Crocuses are definitely a sign of spring, even if spring hasn't taken the hint yet. The Yoda costume reminds me of when I once made American Indian costumes for son and daughter in an afternoon! I can never do anything without a midnight deadline panic anyway.

Now that's a misleading thumbnail you chose there... :D
As for slugs? You need to borrow the chickens!

Beautiful crocus carpet shot and Slugger looks quite good too!!

Having no Borders is dreadful, such a miss.
The crocuses are at their very best at the moment and so colourful

I've been driving past those crocuses and thought how lovely they are - great capture!

Borders closed????!!!!!! So that confirms I made a right move, even with horrendous book prices here. I still go in and browse and read and maybe one day will manage a cup of coffee.
Have fun with the costume! Obviously you have a light saber already, so he just needs to practice the voice.

Go slugger! I haven't seen a toad in years.
