Thursday 2 September 2010: Autumn patio
Most of the time I like the fact that our house opens straight onto the place because it means we're part of the community, talking to neighbours as soon as we open the front door or barbecuing our meals together out in the street, but sometimes I feel quite envious of people who have even this small amount of space of their own. Especially when they've shut the house up and left it after the summer holidays!
Today was the start of term in all French schools, la rentrée, and there is a very autumnal, quiet atmosphere in the village.

A charming entryway although I have a few reservations about the door. I just assumed you had garden space and I gasped to discover that you hadn't. I would go completely crazy without being able to step outside in privacy. We did have an attached house in a village once and yes, it was nice to throw open the shutters and say good morning to neighbours but we were never there for more than one week at a time and that is very different.

@Amalari: don't worry - we do have a garden as well, but it's separate from the house as all the gardens are in the villages here.

First day back at school here too. Son#1 was raring to go to meet his new year group just up from Primary School. Of course, Summer has returned now they are back at school!

Not as well known as some No. 10s! But a very inviting entranceway....I like the curves of the gate top and the flower arch echo-ing each other plus the splash of red flowers to remind us that summer is not over altogether yet!

A very pretty entrance, and they're so lucky to have a bit of garden!

It's a bit autumnal here too. I don't really know where the year has gone, but then I never do! I like the perspective on this one a lot too. Seems a shame to leave such a gorgeous house.
As for the plums - will eventually make jam with some of them, but have stuck them in the freezer just now. That way I can do a spiced plum crumble whenever the fancy takes me too!

Ooh, I too long for even a little space outside to step into! We have an allotment but that's a 20 min walk away. This is a nice little patio (although I'm not sure about that door either), but I bet you'd have more edible things growing in it!

Looks idyllic!

I agree with ColinParte... very idyllic

A very pretty entrance, but some aspects don't seem to fit with the village I know from your blips. The glass door would be nice from the inside, but that screen is so ugly.
