Composition No 285 - Gaudi

The Battle of Harlaw was a Scottish clan battle fought on 24 July 1411 near Inverurie. It was one of a series of battles fought during the Middle Ages between the barons of northeast Scotland against those from the west coast.

The Harlaw Monument was erected in 1911 at a cost of £350 and is decorated with eight blank panels which were intended to carry the coats of arms of the principal protagonists.
As three of the arms were to represent Macdonald, Maclean and Macintosh, there was an objection to paying for the arms of the enemy, and as a result no heraldry was added to the monument. It has been left unfinished for almost 100 years!

With the 600th anniversary almost upon us there are calls to complete the structure.

I hope these include a provision to straighten it.
