Monday 7 March 2011: Freeway to Food Forest
The Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 wiped out this part of the freeway. Eventually this piece of land will be redeveloped, but for now it's an urban farm: Hayes Valley Farm, which has transformed the space into an urban farm. Because it isn't permanent, the pavement hasn't been torn up, and instead they're planting trees in pots that can be relocated. In the meantime, the farm is used as an educational resource with local schools. The farm was closed when I went by, so this is shot through a fence.
