Perigee Moonrise

After yesterday's warm-up attempt, this is the Super Moon for real.

It really was stunning watching this rise-up out of the low clouds, and I think the fact that it isn't a completely clear night had added to the ambience. Not a crystal clear shot, but one that captures something of the atmosphere of this special event.

Co-incidentally, the line of the Moon to my house in this picture has it more or less exactly over Kirkstall Abbey, tucked just over the hill about seven miles away. Tonight they are performing Frankenstein's Wedding there this evening (also showing live on BBC3) - they couldn't have hoped for a better setting.
