Wiring

Thankfully it's not the wiring in our new flat! This is the tangle outside our hotel bedroom window which is now more visible since we moved down a floor after Carnival; it's very typical of the arrangements you see all over Brazil and in many parts of Barcelona for that matter. Just finished three hours of calls and decided to blip earlier than usual and use the big camera - only the second shot with it in 5 weeks!

Carrying about any DSLR (let alone my rather large one) is not possible/advisable given the heat, the other stuff I'm lugging about, the endless activities I'm dashing about doing, and the varying security conditions of the places I happn to be. It's a lot less problematic here and in Sao Paulo than it was a few years ago, but there's still a chance of an anxious teenager with a gun on a motorbike tapping on your car window as you're stuck in traffic (as happend to the car in front of DD in SP) and making off with what you've got. I always have a decent note in my pocket to hand over in a calm way, and we used to have 'fake' wallets with old 'plastic' to hand over. But still better not to have too much of real value with you.

My 365th shot taken with the D3x was a specially dedicated trip with taxis door to door, and taken in an area you have to pay to get in (Sugar Loaf). This was taken from the balcony. It's nice to look through a viewfnder again!
