Tuesday 12 April 2011: Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens
For those not familiar with Aberdeen this is The Union Terrace Gardens, a park in the centre of the city that faces the possibility of being destroyed, with all the tree's felled to fulfill the vanity of a businessman who has pledged 50 million GBP towards the building of a multi storey car park topped by a "Civic Square".
Very generous you may think, but the total cost of this project is estimated to be 140 million GBP. Aberdeen Council, who are unable to fund their current social services budget seem to think 90 million GBP is a worthwhile investment as is the loss of this beautiful sunken Victorian Garden.
55% of respondents to the public consultation were against the plan but the council voted to go ahead to th next stage anyway.
