Sweet Chestnut

We took our chairs to the bluebell wood today, the scent was heavenly, the bird song amazing and the peace and quiet quite wonderful. Our son came too, an added bonus:)

I wandered up and down taking copious shots of bluebells and stitchwort, then back to sitting for a while in the dappled shade when I spotted this small sweet chestnut shoot and its shadow. That was the one for today.

The wood is fairly traditional still with birch, holly, a few small oaks and hazel, with an occasional ancient beech, and of course the delicious sweet chestnut. My husband coppices the chestnut and hazel but the wood was neglected for years and it will take a lot of catching up. A work in progress and a labour of love.
