Polling day

Black-headed gull, River Kent

The black-headed gulls were catching insects over the River Kent in Kendal today. As they flew close to the water, there were fleeting shadows and reflections, and it was frustratingly difficult to get anything more than a blurry gull passing. This one obliged by settling on the river, and at the moment the shutter clicked, his feet appeared to be walking on water. Yesterday's swans were floating on black water, today's gull is a study in white. With a bit of imagination, the open wings reflected make the sign of a cross, appropriate perhaps today.

This afternoon the refreshing smell of rain filled the air as the clouds opened over Kendal and Arnside.

We cast our votes this evening after the evening meal. Which way will the AV vote go? There was a lot of misinformation flying about beforehand, and I fear the opportunity for change may be lost.
