Sunday 8 May 2011: Inside the dome
You may recall the outside of this Ukranian Cathoic Church and its dome. This is part of its sumputously decorated interior.
This blip is in fact the inside of the dome with the figure of Christ as depicted in the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (now istanbul) dominating.
The chai rho, (the first two letters of Christ in Greek) were used by emperor Constantine after his conversion on the shields of his soldiers as the Roman army became more Christian in accordance with his vision telling him "in this conquer".
Apparently there are 70,000 people of Ukranian descent in Calgary, not quite as many as in Edmonton which boasts close to 100,000 and 15 Ukranian churches
