Saturday 14 May 2011: Saturday morning still life
There seemed to be more light just inside the kitchen window than outside this morning, with dark thundery clouds threatening. Friends to supper tonight, so preparing a dish I haven't tried before from one of my favourite books, André Soulier's La Cuisine Secrète du Languedoc-Roussillon, adapted by me to suit ingredients available in the garden - mussels with chard (rather than Soulier's spinach) and a cream and saffron sauce. Artichokes and broad beans from the garden will make a first course, Roquefort cheese and then these local strawberries for dessert.
