Moeraki Flag Station

Situated at Springbank, North Canterbury, NZ

A little bit of history. In June 1875 the Rangiora-Oxford Railway line was opened. It was twenty-one miles and operated two mixed trains each way, carrying passengers and freight. It took an hour and 40 minutes for the uphill trip from Bennetts to Oxford, or a full three hours for the run from Christchurch.
The need for a railway line to Oxford became necessary as the timber industry grew in the area. The line was permanently closed in April 1959 as the competition from road freight increased.

The Moeraki Flag Station is the railway station for Springbank estate, situated on the Rangiora-Oxford line. A bit old and rustic now and fading away in a fully fenced paddock nestled beneath the trees.

Strong winds today as you can see by the long grass - flattened! Not as sharp as I would've liked but all I could manage in these conditions.

Quiet good in large.

I'll be back for comments as its now time to draw the curtains and have some tea - enjoy your evening or day :)
