Kaiapoi Post Office

Refered to as 'the old Post Office' when talking on the street.

A well known building but has no historical status. Built in 1904 as the Kaiapoi Post Office. The Post Office moved out in 1969 and it has since been used for retail with rental accommodation in the upper story.

It suffered damaged in the September earthquake but remained standing, more damage in February and held fast, but Mondays twin earthquakes took a toll and now its on the way down - to be demolished.

There are a number of old buildings going down in this small town, the future is promising and exciting, its to be redeveloped as a 'river town' but without the heritage buildings and their character.

The top photo was taken in early Autumn and the bottom one today - neither are very good images but record an important event for the small town of Kaiapoi.
