horns of wilmington's cow

I love it when a plan comes together

Or water of a duck's back...

I'd been watching the young coots on the Figgy for a while this morning (remember when they looked like this?) when they started diving, and in that moment I pondered if it would be possible to get a shot of them just as they resurfaced, the water still spread across the back. So, focus on the air bubbles, I got two dives to try it before they got bored with it, et voila. Unbroken surface tension of the water on the back. Chuffed.

Oh, didn't get shortlisted for the British Wildlife Photographers Awards yesterday. Heard rumours of fishiness in the selection, that may or may not have been sour grapes, but it just means that the Waxwing Scrum is saved for another day.

A walk from home to Musselburgh along the coast, then back along the Brunstane Burn Path actually brought little in the way of photographic genius, so you get the Coot (and not the cat watching the chooks after being chased onto the table in the garden by Skye).

Tiring day, and still a lot to do, but another four day week in prospect...
