Friday 28 March 2008: Bottle Green
Found this lovely old bottle in the woods today.
It is one of those beer or lemonade bottles with a marble stopper. Hold it one way, and the marble will roll into the mouth and seal it - the other way, it is caught in a trap and the contents will pour out.
Apparently it is a Codd Bottle (isn't the internet wonderful). I can't find anything out about where it came from though - it says "Sutties St Andrews" - were they brewers or lemonade makers? At least it is fairly local - it has only travelled about twelve miles in the 100 or so years since its birth.
It might be worth something too. There are loads for sale on ebay.
Average price: £1.99
