Today we decided to go swimming in the Ganga. We ended up walking 5km north along a road, which took us to an ashram that the guidebook mentioned as having good swimming. There were boulders and a completely empty beach, as well as a little lee in the river that we could swim in without being swept back down to Varanasi! The only problem was the rafts full of Indian tourists, which came past us every 10 minutes or so. They thought it was hilarious to see to pale white people lying on a beach and swimming!

Thankfully we managed to get a lift back to Rishikesh, where we promptly went to get some banana fritters with nutella and ice cream! In the night there was a gigantic thunderstorm - the sky was lighting up completely, and the power was off most of the time. Oh, and it hailed.
