Today the government revealed the first steps in how they and insurance will deal with homes and land utterly munted by the earthquakes. Some people have the starting place to give them certainty, others are still in limbo while more geotechnical work is undertaken.

This is biggest event a NZ government has had to deal with since World War 2. They need to get it right and given the nature of our country, this will be a precedent for somewhere else. It's tough for everyone. Toughest for those with no infrastructure and wrecked homes.

The zones for the city are red - land repair would be prolonged and uneconomic orange - further assessment required, green - repair/rebuild can begin, white - CBD or hillside suburb, mapping still underway. It's a start.

I biked home thinking of everything I could be grateful for. I'm pleased to say I came up with quite a list. These times certainly require endurance and resiliance.
