Ash sunset

This afternoon my little window man cleaned my windows. All that yuck dust from February's earthquake has gone. What a pleasure to see the sunset through clean windows. Another irony of nature though, the colour is due to the ash cloud circling the globe.

Yesterday's government announcement outlining how land and house damage will be handled for the worst affected has helped some and left others feeling dissatisfied. I hope it is a start and the the starkness or winners and losers doesn't eventuate.

It's huge and complex and clearly what we know so far isn't perfect. But I was struck today with the thought that we do indeed live in a wonderful country. What other country offers insurance of your land? What other country has an Earthquake and War Commission to deal with natural disasters? And it might need more work but our government has stepped up with options to help give people hope and certainty. It's more than we'd have in Haiti.

Sunny day, Friday, clean windows and the house is vacuumed. A good launch into the weekend.
