Pre-Heavy Lift Check

Before the big blocks are used for a heavy lift, everything is thoroughly checked, the block is lowered, visually inspected for cracks and even MPI-ed. MPI stands for Magnetic Particle Inspection and here is how this works. It is quite simple; if a small crack should occur in the material the magnetic flux is disturbed. Put some iron particles on it, use a magnet and see what's happening. Anyway; if your interested, see this site. To make it better visible, white paint is used on dark surfaces like the big hook. So if you see white paint on critical equipment or fresh welds, it is contrast paint used for MPI purposes.
