Sunday 17 July 2011: Experienced Hunter
This is Loki.
Named from Norse mythology.
18 years old. Which is a ripe old age for a falcon. He has learned that he will be rewarded even if he does not fly.
Which is why he is ideal for no-fly locations such as Historic Scotland's Craigmillar Castle.
Today was a day of history and falconry. Loki's handler has been a falconer for 11 years while her fellow handler was still learning. Both however handled their charges with exceptional expertise (Loki's fellow falcon was a spring chicken of only 17 years standing).
