One advantage with catching the Bluebridge ferry across the Cook Strait to the South Island is that it leaves from smack in the centre of Wellington city. This is the view from on deck as we began to pull out of the dock.

Not a nice day - varying betwen rain and sleet for most of the trip from Palmerston North to Wellington. We got there early so parked the van and went for a walk through the city centre. Of course I had to stop in Borders and came away with 2 new books and a magazine. Oops!

The sailing was fairly rough across the strait. I think we travelled further up and down than we did forwards, but eventually we made it to Picton. It was an easy drive from there to home. I had expected snow and ice through Saint Arnaud and Kawatiri but the road was totally clear.

We were home by 8pm and the temperature here was already below O. Brrr - and my house has been shut up for 10 days so it is very wickedly cold.
