Polytunnel August

It's the 4th - so it must be polytunnel blip. It's a bit of a jungle in here at the moment and needs a serious sort. The peas and broad beans are just about done and need pulling out but beyond them the tomatoes are flourishing and starting to turn red, and on the right peppers and aubergines are looking good and you can just see the sweetcorn, and maybe some spinach and chard. The straggly thing on the left is one of the cucumber plants . Right at the end, the vine is producing and we've just eaten our first bunch of grapes. It's been a good year for onions too and a few are still drying out. I'm waiting for a cool day to get in there. You can see how it's changed over the year here.

Last night's cocktail party was very funny. We stuck to Daiquiris - actually very refreshing and I'm sure they must be madly good for you - tons of freshly squeezed limes, freshly chopped mint, sparkling water, ice and a smidgeen of rum! We ate finger foods as no one wanted to do any washing up - I made mini tartlets (very good), plus there was sushi, mini pizzas and a really delicious cucumbery thing.

Horrible grey humid weather. Himself has a chest infection (He blames Manchester airport) and I'm a bit throaty and snotty. Ah well.
