Tuesday 22 April 2008: Port of Terschelling
This is the harbour of Terschelling, the only natural port in the Netherlands. Automatically kept to depth by a never failing system of a reservoir filled up during rising tide. Falling tide empties the reservoir through the harbour and takes all silt and sand outside. On the left you see the fast ferry Koegelwieck mooring at her berth and the two buildings on the right are the Golden Tulip Hotel and the Willem Barentsz nautical college. Founded more than hundred years ago, the school belongs to the oldest nautical colleges of the Netherlands. Still going strong with the most modern equipment like all kinds of simulators to prepare the students for their nautical future.
