Wednesday 23 April 2008: Royal Dutch Lifeboat Association

This is the 'Arie Visser', the K.N.R.M. lifeboat of Terschelling. K.N.R.M stand for Royal Dutch Lifeboat Association. I wrote a few days earlier that especially the northern coast of the the Netherlands is very dangerous and treacherous. Shipwrecks symbols are littered all over the charts of the Dutch coast. The Lifeboat station of Terschelling is a busy and a professional station as well, therefore volunteers with preferably nautical background are needed. It is often spectacular work and that is exactly the reason I like to do this when I am home. By the way; the sign on the left on this picture says next Saturday is lifeboat day, so everybody is invited to have a look at a Dutch station of your choice and even embark for a free ride with a lifeboat.
