Something Beautiful

A slight back blip as its now Wednesday but yesterday i thought i should take something beautiful just to escape the chaos.

I was woken up by sirens from the main road. Something you would normally ignore but after hearing of the riots on Monday evening in Birmingham you start to become more aware of theses things. On Monday me and Maddy were in town and by the sounds of it we got out just in time. The irony being that our discussion on the bus revolved around how even though Birmingham is a major city full of dodgy characters we would feel quite safe and happy walking through the city centre at night. On the night the local radio kept us updated with goings on in the city. Hearing that a place where you've grown up and consider home is being smashed up and trashed for no real reason is shocking and heartbreaking.
I was meant to be going into work yesterday and for the first time ever i was slightly apprehensive about going into town by myself, however i was determined to go in as i don't see why i/we should let these low lives change the way we live our lives. On the way to bus i received a phone call from work saying the bullring was to be shut early again for a second night in a row so to not bother coming in. Throughout the whole of yesterday rumors were flying around and it's hard to know what the truth is. Not listening to the radio or watching the news makes it quite easy to forget but when your lying in bed listening to sirens you can't help but worry and wonder how close the trouble is getting to home.

This morning i went into town as i had work. To be honest i was quite surprised as the damage wasn't as bad as i feared. Probably just over half the shops were boarded up, some due to circumstances in the night but others just as a precaution. However when you take a look into the shops such as Jessops and see that it is totally empty it makes you wonder how they actually got away with. Today Birmingham did have more people than i would have expected but then again compared to how it normally is it was like a ghost town. The Bullring shut again today at 4 o'clock, as a precaution or due to rumors of further rioting we were unaware but i guess only time will tell.
