in for a penny...

The church in the foreground amuses me in that the walls mostly fell out in the earthquakes, but the roof remains practically unscathed (as far as a non-engineer can tell from across the road).

Who would have thought you can have a roof without walls?!

In the background at right is a new building going up... the owner has been on TV highlighting the insurance problems we face. His insurance covers the rebuild while it is in progress but once completed the building won't be insured as they are averse to taking on new risks. Go figure!

Hopefully insurers with existing risks in Christchurch will protect those by ensuring that the city can be rebuilt - it's a bigger picture approach that is needed I reckon.

Otherwise... last one out, turn the lights off. Who can afford to rebuild without insurance? How can you get a mortgage to move on if you can't get insurance...???
