Wondering What Might Have Been....

3:45pm, Hampden Park. Scotland get a goal just before half-time. 1-0 up. Hoped the blip would be the Tartan Army in fine voice during the interval - flags waving, singing, cheering, hands up in the air.

5pm Hampden Park. 15 minutes after the full time whistle and the national stadium is deserted apart from a few fans sitting wondering what might have been. If you're a Scotland fan, you can probably relate to how these two fans are feeling and it's a feeling that is all too familiar. Optimism, hope, anxiety, joy, disappointment, all in the space of 90 minutes.

The Czech Republic equalised in the 2nd half only for Darren Fletcher to put Scotland 2-1 up with less than ten minutes to go. 89th minute, Czech player goes down in the box. Penalty. Watching highlights just now, I thought it was a penalty during the game but it's clearly a dive. 2-2.

Few minutes later, Scotland player goes down, looks like a penalty but ref judges that Berra dived (replay says otherwise).

Full time 2-2. We probably needed to win today to give us a fighting chance of making the Euro 2012 play-offs.

What is it we usually say on nights like this? There's always the World Cup....
