Breaking the silence...

Holme Fen, near Peterborough is one of the quietest, most peaceful places I know. The silence is only broken by the sound of the geese on the lake, the wind in the trees and the quite frequent trains that ply up and down the East Coast line.

Set the camera to 'continuous high speed' and caught this express in full flight as it sped along the line north, probably on its way to Edinburgh. There are a few signs that autumn is underway and quite a few felled birches - victims of the very high winds we had not long ago.

Enjoyed the walk with my good friend J - she's a knowledgeable bird watcher and identified Canada geese, greylag geese, widgeon, cormorants, coots, moorhens and crested grebe (I think!), not to mention the mallards.

For the record: 20C, windy and they say temperatures are about to drop considerably as the winds will come from the north. Could soon be time to put the heating back on...
