Wednesday 19 October 2011: Street O

Tonight was the first meeting of the South Ribble Orienteering Club (SROC) Street League Season.

Rather bizarrely the first meeting was at Bolton le Sands which is North of the Lune and nearly 30 miles North of the Ribble, never mind it was good to get back into it, I will now wait eagerly for the results to be published.

The idea of Street Orienteering is that you are given a map which is marked with controls. The controls might be a something like a lamp post, telegraph pole or road sign, when you visit you record the details, usually a number, each control is worth between 10 and 60 points, you choose the length of time you want to be out for, 45, 60 or 75 minutes and in that time you try and visit as many controls as possible. Don't be late back, the penalties are severe!

Two weeks now until the second event at Penwortham, can't wait.
