Wednesday 9 November 2011: The Monkey Catcher

In support of Telford College's joint work on creative industries with Delhi University I visited their Open Learning Campus this afternoon - my third University visit in less than 36 hours (plus two MOUs witnessed and the full HE Summit still to happen over the next two days).

Of course I was given a tour of the facilities but I was surprised to be told that they had also ensured that the "monkey catcher" was around.

Apparently small monkeys of various types are a perpetual nuisance on the campus, stealing food , disrupting activity and even attacking students. The "monkey catcher" uses a Langur Monkey - the sacred monkey of Hinduism - to chase them away.

And it works.....
