The Blackcountry Man

Rememberance.....

These are my Dads WWII medals, and the text is from some research that Mr Colin Henderson has been doing on the HMS Torrent Flotilla of Landing craft that were in the Normandy Landings 6th June 1944.
My Dads craft was LCI 539 skippered by William Edney.

You can read the account of the action he was in at the time, The landing craft was totalled but at low tide it was retrieved and re-floated.
Dad had to swim ashore and wait until the gun fire subsided before returning to the Flotilla on another LCI, other crew went on another LCI which was hit by shell fire and some of his crew mates were killed.

Funny enough this was the only time Dad put foot on foreign soil.

Rest in Peace Dad.
