Tuesday 13 December 2011: A reminder
On my office wall in St Andrews House I have my father's Higher Leaving Certificate from 1938 and his 1960s teaching registration from the GTC . My mother's diploma is also there - a wee tribute to them and a reminder of education as a continuous process , which changes but also stays the same.
This afternoon I had a meeting in the office which included Hugh McMahon, the former Strathclyde West Labour MEP. He had taught with my father ( and my uncle) at Irvine Royal Academy but didn't know the connection.
Until now.
