The first rose??

I have been editing photos from yesterday's blipmeet in Edinburgh for most of the day. This afternoon I wandered around the garden searching for the first signs of spring. The snowdrops are just showing buds but no flowers yet. I found a few fronds of bronze fennel, cheerfully pushing up amongst dead leaves in the border.

Then I spotted this rose. I realise that in showing this I am letting you into an awful secret: the roses were not pruned in November.....
