The Cloud Piercer

Aoraki / Mt Cook. New Zealand's highest peak. Sometimes called the Cloud Piercer. Today you can see why.

At 3,754 metres, it is 10m shorter than it used to be after an avalanche in December 1991 removed the extra height in the form of 10 million cubic metres of rock which plummeted into the Tasman Glacier.
