The Will

RNLI lifeboat 17-02 The Will alongside at Inverness Marina. This Severn class lifeboat has an interesting history.

It's nows a relief lifeboat used around the UK and Ireland when other lifeboats are under going maintenance. The Will was the first Severn Class built after the prototype and was to be stationed at Stornoway. However after trials in heavy seas off the Hebrides, part of the lifeboat hull and fittings were damaged badly and the local crew rejected the boat. She ended being fixed and the 'gremlins' were 'ironed out' and she went onto to be stationed at Falmouth for a short period before entering the relief fleet.

Every ship and boat what ever their size has a story under their keel.
