Homing Pigeons

Had a great few days staying with my Mum and Dad but it's time to go home.

This plate has pride of place in my parent's house. It was won in 1906 by my Great Grandfather who was a breeder of racing pigeons and I love the design of it. We've also got some documents issued by the war office that gave him special dispensation to keep his pigeons during the First World War, many breeders had to destroy their flocks of homing pigeons in case they were used for informing the enemy about military manouvres. My Great Grandad's pigeons must have been extremely patriotic to have escaped the cull!

Time for us to fly home!
