Sunday 29 January 2012: Rhubarb

I spotted the first of the rhubarb in the garden this morning. I'm very pleased about this, because late last autumn I prepared a new rhubarb bed with bags of manure and compost and transplanted some roots from an old bed. Interestingly, it is the transplanted shoots which seem to be more advanced than the three new plants I bought to add to this larger bed.

I know it's best to leave rhubarb for a year before picking, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stop myself from eating some this year...
