Double, Double, Toil and Trouble

Doesn't this look like Shakespeare's witches in a circle brewing up trouble? Actually it is some desert plants that look a lot like Joshua Trees, but kind of different, that went through a fire. The trees died but beneath them are new ones beginning. I loved the look of the old ones. They had an anthropomorphic feel to me. The other cactus you can see is a cholla. We were exploring Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas when we came upon a large field of these fellows. I had to explore. A few had blackened bark which was the clue as to why they were dead and ones in other areas of the park were not.
