Tuesday 14 February 2012: Ho Chi Minh city blues...
Mixed impressions from my first day in this city. Skyscrapers showcasing Versace in stark empty shops - there are still hawkers and beggars - but something about the city streets here lack the passion and soul of Ha Noi. Or maybe I just havnt found it yet.
I did find the tortured history of the Vietnam war - depicted in heart wrenching photos at the war remnants museum - too awful to describe the pain and shock in the eyes of those still alive in the photos.
We need museums like this in every country - not just where atrocities happen - to remind us all of what we are capable of doing so it will never happen again.
This is part of a list of millions of vietnamese dead and missing........
