Friday 24 February 2012: raspberry flowers
This is really a grevillea but now named the raspberry flower in our family.
This afternoon junior lad and I trawled the streets for kerb side goodies (mainly electronicky things for six year old deconstructing and re-inventing) as collection day approaches. When we came across a fence line buzzing with bees and grevillea shrubs he called them the ice cream flowers! Vanilla, mango and raspberry....this one obviously the latter.
The looped stamens spring upright from the stem end towards the tip as the flower develops. The bees just love them and actually fall off in a nectar stupor.
I reckon a triple scoop of mango, vanilla and raspberry would be send me into a nectar stupor too!
